well if we see,
It is of course very difficult to compare the two personalities and the two eras. But saying that Vajpayee was more popular in 1999 than Modi in 2013 is nothing but hubris of intellectuals. Vajpayee even though more likeable can’t match the mass popularity of Narendra Modi. I don’t think we saw a crowd of 5-7 Lac people at any of Vajpayee rally.
Those were different times though. Electronic media wasn’t so powerful and social media wasn’t there. Most media was influenced by left wing intellectuals who thought Vajpayee was like them…. a sophisticated intellectual, so for them Vajpayee will always remain more popular. But Modi’s popularity has been a miracle of social & mass electronic media where a common man has a voice.
