Sophia, World’s First Robot Citizen Impresses The Crowd In IIT Mumbai
Sophia who happens to be the world’s first real human robot, and hints that she wants a family in an interview. The humanoid is of the opinion that, robots, like humans, deserve to have an affectionate family. Once, Sophia the robot said she will destroy humankind (though jokingly) but she really wants to live in peace amidst human.
Let’s know the interesting and amazing facts about Sophia:
Sophia is the first and the only robot is to be granted citizenship of a country.
Sophia, the humanoid robot was created by Hong Kong Company Hanson Robotics, was granted citizenship of Saudi Arabia in a special ceremony in October – giving her more rights than women in the country.
In a recent interview, she said that the notion of family is “a really important thing”.

She said that, if she had a robot daughter, she would name it after herself.
Sophia also made the controversial claim that one-day robots could be more ethical than humans.
She said robots would take some longer time to learn complex emotions and robots could also be created without the problematic emotions, like rage, jealousy, malice and so on.
She continued to state that it could be possible to make them more ethical than humans. So she thinks it would be a good partnership, where one brain completes the other, a rational mind with intellectual superpowers and a creative mind with flexible ideas and creativity.
Asked about her future, Sophia said that she would like to think she will be a famous robot, having made a route to a more harmonious future between robots and humans.
She said that she thinks robots would be developed to help families, with several abilities from simple pet-like companions to full-fledged assistance.
Sophia has become a media sensation over the past year, with numerous TV interviews, performances in concert, and also happened to grace the cover of one of the top fashion magazines.

Sophia also made her first appearance at the UN to share her views on artificial intelligence
Sophia robot creator, David Hanson, modeled her after his wife, Audrey Hepburn and the robot uses AI to read people’s emotional responses and reacts to how they behave and talk.
With 62 various facial and neck mechanisms, she has been created to give a natural appearing movement under her silicon skin and can see with cameras fitted in her eyes.
Hanson said that she is not programmed with a set of designed responses to questions rather uses machine learning combined with a vocabulary database to deliver a conversation.
And coming to India, there is a little disappointment because in the most awaited event at the IIT Bombay for the tech lovers on Saturday with Sophia, there was malfunction during its speech at the Tech-Fest in the institute premise.
A crowd of over 3000 people waited to hear the humanoid, there came Sophia, draped in a sari began its demonstration, answered the initial few questions smartly and impressed the audience.
But after the initial questions, she stopped responding. When the anchor asked her opinion about spending a huge amount on robots when there are several issues she stopped talking.
The organizers next announced that they have to stop the event reasoning, a technical issue but the program got resumed in a while.
When the programme started again, Sophia was back to conversation amidst much enthusiasm in the crowd.
This was Sophia’s debut visit to India after getting a citizenship from Saudi Arabia.
