Bollywood films are more enticing with music and dance. Music adds spark to the movie and that makes our films unique in the entire world. There are several movies which survived because of the super hit music album with unforgettable songs. But very few filmmakers attempted to make musical movies based on musical bands, singers or musicians.

Baiju Bawra (1952)

The film was based on Akbar’s era. The story is about a talented singer Baiju Bawra whose mission was to defeat Tansen. Directed by Vijay Bhatt and had Bharat Bhushan in the lead role. The film is popular for its music based on classical Ragas which were composed by Naushad.

Abhimaan (1973)

This musical hit had Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan. The film was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The story is about a conflicting marriage between two singers. The story is created with beautiful music under the composition by S. D. Burman.

Sangeet (1992)

This film is about lives of two singers enacted by Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff. The film was directed by K Vishwanath, and the story centers on a blind, orphan girl who dreams to be a successful singer and how she becomes successful along with another street performer.

Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995)

One of the most popular musical movies. A melodious musical drama directed by Mansoor Khan is about two ambitious singers who marry but gets separated owing to career issues. Aamir Khan and Manisha Koirala were in lead roles and the film is just a remake of the famous Hollywood classic Kramer Vs. Kramer.

Sur- The Melody of Life (2002)

The film is all about music and how music connects life. The film was produced under the direction of Tanuja Chandra. The story is about a music teacher and his talented student; the roles were played byLucky Ali and Gauri Karnik respectively. The teacher grows jealous of the success of his favourite student, though later he realized his mistake. The movie did not do well but the songs composed by M.M. Kareem touched the hearts of people and finds a place in the list of musical films.

Rock On!! (2008)

Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, the movie is a story about four friends who reunite to bring their glorious moment as a music band. The movie had Farhan Akhtar, Purab Kohli, Arjun Rampal, Prachi Desai and Shahana Goswami. Both the film and the songs did well.

London Dreams (2009)

A Vipul Shah directed film had Ajay Devgn, Salman Khan, Aditya Roy Kapoor, and Asin in the lead roles. The story is about two friends who become rock stars and forms a rock band.

Rockstar (2011)

Ranbir Kapoor starring in movies are about an aspiring singer who chases his dreams to become a big rock star, falls in love only to end up being frustrated and despondent without the girl. A film with amazing music portrays several emotions like passion, ambitions, love, and anguish.

Aashiqui 2 (2013)

A Mohit Suri movie, this is a love story about the problematic relationship between musicians Rahul and Arohi, and the relationship being affected by Rahul’s alcohol abuse and bad temperament. Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor play lead roles.

Lucknow Central(2017)

The movie was directed by Ranjit Tiwari and revolves around by an aspiring singer Kishan Girhotra. Farhan Akhtar plays the lead role as the Up singer who idolizes Bhojpuri singer Mano Tiwari and dreams to become like him.
